Okay so, I know this has already been answered but I am currently taking French history right now so I thought that I could maybe be of use. Actually, back in the old regime of France,  blue represented nobility, white as clergy, and bourgeois as red. We know it today as more liberte, egalite, et fraternite (liberty, equality, and fraternity), but that's what it used to be. I hope I could be of some help!
