Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Down below

Explanation:

Claim:washing your hands several times a day is important-valid because it reduces the amount of germs you obtain through everything you touch.

If you do not you at a higher risk of getting sick-invalid because if you are inside all the time and aren’t exposed to people that have gone outside, then nothing will really happen to you. Unless you are near sick people, than not washing your hands a bunch of times won’t really help or hurt you. It does help you keep clean and sanitary though.

Read the excerpt from chapter 2 of Night.

We tried to reason with her, more to calm ourselves, to catch our breath, than to soothe her:

"She is hallucinating because she is thirsty, poor woman . . . That's why she speaks of flames devouring her . . .”

But it was all in vain. Our terror could no longer be contained. Our nerves had reached a breaking point. Our very skin was aching. It was as though madness had infected all of us. We gave up. A few young men forced her to sit down, then bound and gagged her.

What quotation indicates that the author’s purpose is to justify actions in an intolerable situation?

“We tried to reason with her, more to calm ourselves, to catch our breath, than to soothe her.”

Answer:

“But it was all in vain.”

“It was as though madness had infected all of us.”

Explanation:

“We tried to reason with her, more to calm ourselves, to catch our breath, than to soothe her.” This indicates that the author’s purpose is to justify actions in an intolerable situation. Therefore, the correct option is option A.

What is an excerpt?

An excerpt is indeed a quotation from that other resource that the author introduces with fresh language in a sentence. This phrase is taken from Thomas Jefferson's 1801 inaugural speech: As he warned his audience, "I may often go wrong by defect of judgement," Jefferson admitted the fallibility of human nature. "I shall frequently err through lack of judgement" is the excerpt.

This is a brief passage from a lengthy work, hence being an excerpt first from Declaration of Independence: "When it comes to necessary for one nation to cut the political ties that have bound them to another, and also to assume among powers of the world," says the philosopher Aristotle. “We tried to reason with her, more to calm ourselves, to catch our breath, than to soothe her.” This indicates that the author’s purpose is to justify actions in an intolerable situation.

Therefore, the correct option is option A.

Narrative about being judged

Answers

Explanation: Being judged is one of the worst possible scenarios in life. Imagine this. You're sitting uncomfortably in that plastic chair, sweat beading around your brow. The tight tie around your neck is suffocating, but you try to make a good first impression. Your body feels as though an iron weight is pulling you down to the ground as a whole, just minutes from being pulled through the floor. You try not to panic, and recite the mantra your friends taught you before the interview. This is your moment. You've been dreaming of this since childhood, but never imagined you'd get this far. Now, all that matters is how the secretary sitting in front of you thinks. He blindly flips through your resume, dull eyes flipping through yellowed pages. His brow was wrinkled and lacked emotion. He looks at you and finally says the words: "I'm sorry, but you're just not what we're looking for. We want this to be an environment where people feel safe and can be aware of that. You're also going to have to catch up with the others. We just can't have someone like you slowing us down." The words strike you like a spear. This had been your dream interview, and you lost it. Many more were to come, only to turn you away. You wonder why. As you sit down on a bench to breathe in your sorrows, a puddle splashed onto the sidewalk in front of you. You're not soaking wet, but your shoes are soggy. You sigh and look down at your reflection. A sad immigrant with nowhere to go. Your parents had already gone out of their way to fund your education. Their savings were depleted, and you were the first in the family to graduate college. You'd be looked down upon in this society either way. The people here don't see you or anyone that looks like you as their equal. It's how it works. It's happened everywhere you've gone. All because of the color of your skin, people judge. But you soldier on. Maybe someday, you'll find your dream job and find the life you've dreamed of. Keep positive thoughts. Life only gets harder, and never easy. It's what built you as a person. As you step into the next office, you have high hopes. You confidently step and put a smile on your face. It's for the best. The glass doors close behind you and you sit on the next bench.

Read this excerpt from Little Brother and answer the following questions in complete sentences using proper grammar and punctuation:

Marcus manages to flag down a vehicle and they get more than they bargained for...

It was a military-looking Jeep, like an armored Hummer, only it didn't have any military insignia on it. The car skidded to a stop just in front of me, and I jumped back and lost my balance and ended up on the road. I felt the doors open near me, and then saw a confusion of booted feet moving close by. I looked up and saw a bunch of military-looking guys in coveralls, holding big, bulky rifles and wearing hooded gas masks with tinted face-plates.

I barely had time to register them before those rifles were pointed at me. I'd never looked down the barrel of a gun before, but everything you've heard about the experience is true. You freeze where you are, time stops, and your heart thunders in your ears. I opened my mouth, then shut it, then, very slowly, I held my hands up in front of me.

The faceless, eyeless armed man above me kept his gun very level. I didn't even breathe. Van was screaming something and Jolu was shouting and I looked at them for a second and that was when someone put a coarse sack over my head and cinched it tight around my windpipe, so quick and so fiercely I barely had time to gasp before it was locked on me. I was pushed roughly but dispassionately onto my stomach and something went twice around my wrists and then tightened up as well, feeling like baling wire and biting cruelly. I cried out and my own voice was muffled by the hood.

I was in total darkness now and I strained my ears to hear what was going on with my friends. I heard them shouting through the muffling canvas of the bag, and then I was being impersonally hauled to my feet by my wrists, my arms wrenched up behind my back, my shoulders screaming.

I stumbled some, then a hand pushed my head down and I was inside the Hummer. More bodies were roughly shoved in beside me.

"Guys?" I shouted, and earned a hard thump on my head for my trouble. I heard Jolu respond, then felt the thump he was dealt, too. My head rang like a gong.

"Hey," I said to the soldiers. "Hey, listen! We're just high school students. I wanted to flag you down because my friend was bleeding. Someone stabbed him." I had no idea how much of this was making it through the muffling bag. I kept talking. "Listen—this is some kind of misunderstanding. We've got to get my friend to a hospital—"

Someone went upside my head again. It felt like they used a baton or something—it was harder than anyone had ever hit me in the head before. My eyes swam and watered and I literally couldn't breathe through the pain. A moment later, I caught my breath, but I didn't say anything. I'd learned my lesson.

In three to five sentences, explain Marcus' current stage of identity development. Use examples from the text. As a reminder, the different stages of identity development are: (20 points)

Identity Diffusion occurs when an adolescent does not make a commitment to any particular roles, values, or goals.
Identity Foreclosure occurs when someone makes a commitment without considering other possibilities.
Identity Moratorium occurs when an individual is in the midst of a crisis over a particular role or value and tries out alternatives in order to make a commitment.
Identity Achievement occurs when someone makes a personal decision or commitment after going through a crisis and exploring his or her options.

Answers

Answer:     Identity Moratorium because the narrator has been kidnapped and at first he called out to  his friends for help, not knowing they had been kidnapped as well. When he was pushed into the car, he again tried to call to his friends, but was silenced. Then, he tried talking to his captors, thinking this was all a big misunderstanding. (I wanna read this book! Summary of the sniper

Answers

The Sniper, by Liam O'Flaherty, is a fiction novel centered around the dehumanization of war. In the short story, a Republican sniper remains positioned atop the rooftops of Dublin. Nighttime has fallen, and the moment he lights a cigarette, an enemy sniper, a Free Stater, fires a bullet directly over his head. Positioned atop the building directly across from sniper rests the enemy that took aim. Immediately after, an armored car arrives at the scene, and an old woman in a tattered shawl informs them of the Republican snipers position. A turret unleashes itself atop the armored car, but the sniper is too nimble and terminates both the man behind the turret and the old woman.

Suddenly, a shot rings out from the opposing rooftop, striking the sniper in the arm and forcing him to drop his rifle from the excruciating pain. Our unassailable sniper trudges on regardless. "Then he lay still against the parapet, and, closing his eyes, he made an effort of will to overcome the  pain," (O'Flaherty, 1923, p. 2). The sniper is clever and hastily devises a plan to shoot the enemy with just his pistol from fifty yards away. He props his hat up on his rifle, giving the enemy sniper plenty of time to take his shot, and mocks his own death by letting the hat fall to the bottom of the building and slumming his hand over the edge. His arm trembles from the recoil, and the clearing smoke reveals his target: writhing in pain, and eventually dead.

After drinking from his flask to dull the sensations of war, curiosity compels the sniper to unmask his target's identity. "He threw himself face downward beside the corpse... Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother’s face," (O'Flaherty, 1923, p. 3). This guides one's attention back to our theme, the dehumanization of war. The antagonist and Free Stater sniper who fires at the Republican sniper in the beginning is actually his brother.

This is the best summary I could make. I used every strong verb I could, avoiding state of being verbs and passive voice, and cited my quotations appropriately. I don't know about authorial stems unfortunately, nor do I know what to highlight and underline, so you are on your own for those. This should give you a good idea on what to do though. I hope this helps :)

I would say D

Explanation:

The rule of thirds is a very simple concept. It simply means that whenever your children get money (whether that’s an allowance, a gift, “pocket money,” or something they’ve earned), they split it into three portions.

The first portion is money they get to spend on anything they want, right now.

The second portion is money they can save for a few months towards a big purchase. Perhaps they want a bicycle or a game console.

The third portion is money they can save for a long time. Perhaps it’s money they might eventually use towards buying a house, getting married, or funding college.
